Latina Leadership Academy

Program Overview

The Latina Leadership Academy is designed to build a strong corps of skilled young people who will be empowered to raise awareness of social justice and other community issues facing youth. The project will empower Latina youth and their families to develop leadership and academic skills and to become involved with their community through civic engagement and advocacy. While numerous programs for youth exist in the Coachella Valley, many are fragmented, intermittent, short-term, and problem-focused. Quite simply, there are too many short-term inventions for long-term needs. The Latina Leadership Academy provides a long-term, comprehensive program for youth that embraces the tenets of education, organizing and advocacy, and workforce development around reproductive and social justice.
